We were very much looking forward to a return to this interesting area of Horsham, and we were especially pleased as we were invited along for the night to be part of a documentary being filmed about "haunted Horsham". The finished project will hopefully be finished ready for the start of 2010. We met Katie and here team who were very well organised and said that they would conduct a few interviews and then just let their cameras roll as we carried on with the night. The church and it's grounds are very notorious in the area for odd goings on, of which have been reported by a number of people throughout the years. There are plague pits near the grounds and a gruesome murder is believe to have taken place on the church grounds in the 1800's. Many a visitor has left running day or night for seeing and experiencing movement, and spotting tall dark figures. It was time to open up and ground ourselves, and then time to get underway. We decided for the night it would be best to go round a one team, safety in numbers. Lorraine S and Angie were drawn to one gravestone in which a young girl was being picked up on. The names, Amelia and Ellen were thought to be of some importance, and linked with the surname Gray. A strong male presence was then felt around the grounds April thought she had spotted a man moving quickly around the graveyard, at first thinking it was one of the camera crew, all the crew were accounted for. It was then spotted by Ben who clarified what April had seen. She said that she had seen the figure in a long coat with big buttons running down the front. Lorraine S began to feel heavy headed and muzzy. Angie then felt the presence of another girl with longer hair, and visualised a silver cross this particular girl didn't seem to be wearing shoes. Angie seemed to think that these younger girls were somehow connected to a Georgian house within the area. Angie and Lorraine S then felt an embroidered handkerchief was very significant to one of these girls, as well as a book of remembrance that one of the girls seemed to be clutching, Angie seemed to think that there was a connection to a railway station nearby too. A small séance was held in a particular area that Lorraine.S and Clint D felt drawn to, other than a few noises there wasn't really anything concrete that happened here.
Before moving on there seemed to be a lot of movement around the group, that left one or two members a bit jittery, it definitely felt as if we were being watched. It was around this time that the tall figure was seen again by April, this time in another part of the graveyard. There seemed to be a military connection with this figure. Albert was a name picked up on too. Angie came up with the name "Major Winborne", this has yet to be clarified whether or not this has any relevance. After a break and some top notch food provided by Katie and het team (thank you!) We decided to move on down a path away from the church toward an area were it is believed to have plague pits, the village and this area was severely ravaged by the plague at the time. Before we began, Clint D and April had to call it a night as April had been feeling a tad unwell in the day, and as it was getting colder she wasn't getting any better. As they got underway Angie had picked up on a sick feeling in this area before and almost experienced the suffering felt by the victims. This feeling was then backed up by Lorraine S. Both Ben and Angie felt the presence of a priest around this area, perhaps this had something to do with the plague pits? The name "Gladys" was also picked up on, again there seemed to be a connection with the plague pits. It was around this time that it was getting extremely cold, and the film crew had got all they needed. Time to get home and get warm. All in all another interesting trip to this fascinating piece of history in West Sussex.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Katie and her team for doing such a top job on the night and for treating us like kings with hot drinks and the most pizzas we have ever seen in one place! Thank you also to our astral beings who came to us in some form, may you go in piece. Until next time.
